Manny's Hummer Rack Page

I wanted a rack that would allow me to carry my toys without using up the truck-bed space (which is loaded with off-road gear currently - see the general info page for details on what I carry!) and which would not make my vehicle any "longer" or lose any of its departure angle. I decided to go with a roofrack, but place it across the rear fender wells of the truckbed. This rack consists of a few components, all of which are either Thule or Yakima. I installed Thule "artificial rain gutters", Yakima feet and 78" bars, and several attachments. I have two Thule Velo-vise bike rack units, a Yakima ski/snowboard rack, and Thule pads for my surfboards. The rack is wide enough for me to mount all of these on the rack at once!

I drilled 8 holes to install the rain gutters, and the feet clamp right onto those. The rack is easily removable, but with the lock cores I bought I can lock it to the vehicle. I also modified the tonneau cover so that it will fit over the bed, and the rack can be installed and locked in place over the top of it. I had a local upholstery shop install snaps to the tonneau cover as well, because the velcro attachments just don't do the job all the time.
