NEHOG Trail-Run: Ma Bell 06/2002

These are pics from our June 2nd NEHOG Trailride. We started the day with 4 hummers, a Land Rover D-90, 2 Toyota FJ-40s, and a bunch of Jeeps (a couple of YJ's, 1 CJ, and a couple of TJ's).

2 of the Hummers and the 2 FJ-40s decided to call it a day early, and we hadn't unpacked the camera yet at that point, so there are no pictures of them here. Two of the Jeeps, a TJ and a YJ, were ahead of us on the trail, so we didn't get any film of them either - sorry guys!
(These photos are captured from VHS, so the quality of these pics are mediocre... thanks go out to Matt Amero for manning the camcorder most of the day!)

It was a rainy morning before we went out so the mud was a factor in a few spots, but for the most part the trail dried out nicely, and it was a nice sunny day - perfect for wheeling! No major damage took place, just the usual bumps and scratches, one lost tire bead on a Jeep TJ, and a funky clutch linkage and some steering issues on the Jeep CJ.

This was Jake's first NEHOG ride, with his White 2000 Hummer Wagon - great driving, Jake! It was pleasure meeting you and wheeling with you.

On these early obstacles, it was interesting to see how different the lines that drivers picked were...

The two pictures above are of Suzuki hill - it is trickier than it looks, with loose dirt and some real gullies left to right; check out the air Martin got with his front tire in the white YJ...

Three vehicles attempted "Committed" the very steep rock face you see in the pictures above; my Hummer, a CJ-7 (locked front and rear) and Derek's D-90 (ARB's front and rear). Check out this video clip to see who made it *grin*

Hey Dennis, wanna see a folded TSL/SX? SKWOOSH.

Articulation? We don't need no stinkin' articulation! Marty and Derek are attempting to flip the Hummer over in this shot, disgusted by the lack of travel I get out of the front suspension...

This departure is steep for short-wheelbase vehicles - notice Derek's rear wheel is not touching the rock in the second shot...

Some of us got silly at the end of the day; I backed up the face in reverse, and Matt decided to see how far up the face he could get in his Cummins powered Dodge fullsize with street tires - farther than he thought!
